District Scholarships

The Texas-Oklahoma Kiwanis Foundation also  offers scholarships to high school and college students each year. Check their site each year around the start of the school year to download the latest application materials.

Sophomore of the Year

The Walter Hurst Sophomore of the Year scholarship is named in honor of Walter Hurst,  a longtime board member of the Texas-Oklahoma Kiwanis Foundation. The award is not based on academics, but on leadership qualities. It is available to all high school sophomores in the Texas-Oklahoma District, not just members of Key Club. The number of scholarships awarded each year varies, depending upon the amount of money available from the foundation. Following the student's graduation, the $600 award is sent to the college or university upon receipt of a class schedule or enrollment certification.

The three goals of the program are to: recognize and develop emerging high school leaders in their sophomore year, give students experience in applying for scholarships, and educate the community about Kiwanis International.

Key Club Scholarship

The Key Club Scholarship is available to current members in good standing of Key Club in their senior year of high school with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and evidence of scholastic aptitude (ACT or SAT scores preferred). The award amount varies.

Prospective scholarship awardees must first submit an application and supplemental materials. Approximately 40-45 applicants will then be selected for an interview with a panel of three Texas-Oklahoma Kiwanis Foundation board members at the annual Key Club district convention. Recipients are announced at the Farewell Breakfast of the convention.
