The A. Charles Haston Scholarship Award was created to honor A. Charles Haston, a charter member and former member of the board of directors of the Kiwanis Club of Houston-Sunrise. He previously has been honored with the George F. Hixson Fellowship of the Kiwanis International Foundation. He is also the namesake of the Alphi Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.'s A. Charles Haston Brother's Keeper program. The centenarian, retired educator is a 1937 graduate of Langston University in Oklahoma City.

In 2011, the Kiwanis Club of Houston Sunrise awarded its first A. Charles Haston Scholarship Award to Aaliyah Mason of Barbara Jordan High School. Recipients of other scholarships that year included Ciara Valdery and Tiera Chambers, also from Barbara Jordan, and Maydis Delgado from B.T. Washington.
